Xponsor Cagnottes or GoFundMe: which one fits your fundraiser?

Xponsor's Cagnottes and GoFundMe both exist to collect donations online, but not in the same places. GoFundMe is a large, globally known personal-fundraising platform built for one-off donation campaigns in North America, Western Europe and Australia, funded by a per-donation transaction fee plus an optional support from donors; Xponsor is built for Benin, francophone West Africa and its diaspora. This page compares the two using only what each one publishes on its own pricing page.

The short version

  • On Xponsor, opening an account is free and there is no subscription; any listing fee is shown before you publish. You pay a 5% commission only on donations you actually receive, and the payment-provider fees are already included in the amount shown to the payer.
  • GoFundMe charges nothing to create or manage a fundraiser: its pricing page states “There's no fee to start or manage your fundraiser” and headlines “One transaction fee”, automatically deducted from each donation rather than billed (page read on 20 July 2026).
  • That transaction fee varies by country and by organiser type: 2.9% + $0.30 for an individual or business in the United States, 2.2% + $0.30 for a certified nonprofit in the United States, 2.9% + £0.25 in the United Kingdom, 2.2% + $0.30 in Australia (read on 20 July 2026). There is no single global rate.
  • GoFundMe's pricing page lists 20 countries and no African country appears on it; no FCFA (XOF) amount appears either. Xponsor collects in FCFA, by mobile money (MTN MoMo, Moov Money, Celtiis Cash, Mixx by Yas and more), through our payment provider.

Xponsor and GoFundMe, point by point

Fees on donations

Xponsor
A 5% commission on donations received. Any listing fee is shown before you publish. “J'y serai” badges are free, and Billetterie takes no commission.
GoFundMe
A single transaction fee automatically deducted from each donation, the amount of which depends on the country and the organiser type: 2.9% + $0.30 (individual or business, United States), 2.2% + $0.30 (certified nonprofit, United States), 2.9% + £0.25 and 1.9% + £0.20 (United Kingdom), 2.2% + $0.30 and 1.9% + $0.30 (Australia). Page read on 20 July 2026.

Subscription and fixed fees

Xponsor
No monthly subscription, and the account is free. Any listing fee is shown before you publish the fundraiser.
GoFundMe
No fee to create or manage a fundraiser, and no monthly subscription is mentioned anywhere on the pricing page (read on 20 July 2026). The separate GoFundMe Pro offering is priced differently, as the page itself states.

Payment methods and currencies

Xponsor
Mobile money (MTN MoMo, Moov Money, Celtiis Cash, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money, Free Money), through our payment provider, in FCFA.
GoFundMe
The currencies shown on the pricing page are the US dollar, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, euro, Mexican peso, Swiss franc, pound sterling and the Scandinavian krone currencies. No FCFA (XOF) amount appears there. The payment methods offered to donors are not stated on that page, so we do not describe them here.

Countries covered

Xponsor
Built for Benin and francophone West Africa, collecting by mobile money in FCFA.
GoFundMe
The pricing page publishes fees for 20 countries: United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. No African country appears on it (read on 20 July 2026).

What it fundamentally is

Xponsor
One account for five products: Cagnottes, Billetterie, “J'y serai”, Concours and Support. You fundraise, sell tickets and rally your community in the same place.
GoFundMe
A globally known personal-fundraising platform designed for one-off donation campaigns, with enormous brand recognition. GoFundMe Pro is a separate product whose pricing and fees, the page says, differ.

Extra cost for the donor

Xponsor
The payment-provider fees are included in the amount shown to the payer: no hidden cost, no fixed fee.
GoFundMe
Donors are invited to add an optional contribution to GoFundMe: the page states these contributions “are optional” and “never required”. It also notes that international transaction and conversion fees may apply depending on the payment method.

Tracking and receipts

Xponsor
One-off or recurring donations, free or suggested amounts, real-time tracking of the collection, a customisable page and automatic receipts.
GoFundMe
The balance is withdrawn directly to a bank account, and the help page states that bank transfers take 2-5 business days to arrive. The rest of the tracking experience is not described on the public pages we consulted.

Which platform to choose

Xponsor

When Xponsor is the better choice

Xponsor's Cagnottes are built for the other case: money raised in FCFA, given by mobile money, for an organiser based in Benin or elsewhere in francophone West Africa - a market that appears neither in the country list nor in the currencies GoFundMe publishes. Opening the account is free, and any listing fee is shown before you publish; you pay 5% only on the donations you receive, with no subscription, and the payment-provider fees are already included in the amount shown to the payer. You choose one-off or recurring donations and free or suggested amounts, you follow the collection in real time, you customise the page, and receipts go out automatically. The same account also opens up Billetterie and “J'y serai” if your fundraiser comes with an event: both are free.

GoFundMe

When GoFundMe is the better choice

GoFundMe is the better choice when the people giving are mostly in the countries it prices for - the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Western Europe, Australia or Mexico - and when the organiser has a bank account in one of those countries. Its brand recognition is enormous, which genuinely matters for a fundraiser shared cold with strangers or picked up by the press. And for a certified nonprofit in the US or the UK it publishes a reduced rate (2.2% + $0.30 in the United States, 1.9% + £0.20 in the United Kingdom, read on 20 July 2026). If a diaspora family is raising money entirely in euros or dollars, from donors paying by card, and paying out to a European or North American bank account, GoFundMe is a completely sound choice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an Xponsor fundraiser cost compared with GoFundMe?

On Xponsor, opening an account is free and there is no monthly subscription; any listing fee is shown before you publish. A 5% commission applies only to donations actually received. The payment-provider fees are included in the amount shown to the payer. On GoFundMe's side, the pricing page states that there is no fee to start or manage a fundraiser and that a single transaction fee is automatically deducted from each donation; its amount depends on the country and the organiser type, for example 2.9% + $0.30 for an individual or business in the United States (page read on 20 July 2026).

Can donations be received by mobile money and in FCFA?

On Xponsor, yes: donations are collected through our payment provider by mobile money (MTN MoMo, Moov Money, Celtiis Cash, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money, Free Money), in FCFA. On GoFundMe's pricing page, the currencies shown are the US dollar, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, euro, Mexican peso, Swiss franc, pound sterling and the Scandinavian krone currencies: no FCFA (XOF) amount appears there. That page does not set out the payment methods offered to donors, so we make no claim about them.

Is GoFundMe available in Benin and West Africa?

We can only report what GoFundMe publishes: its pricing page lists fees for 20 countries - United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom - and no African country appears on it (page read on 20 July 2026). For the exact availability in a given country, check with GoFundMe directly. Xponsor, for its part, is built for Benin and francophone West Africa, with donations made by mobile money in FCFA.

Does the donor pay anything on top of their donation?

On Xponsor, no: the payment-provider fees are included in the amount shown to the payer, with no hidden cost and no fixed fee. On GoFundMe, the pricing page states that donors can add an optional contribution to the platform, described as “optional” and “never required”, and that international transaction and conversion fees may apply depending on the payment method (page read on 20 July 2026).
